Many are drawn to natural salts by gourmet chefs and stylish marketing, believing in their health-boosting powers. These beliefs, however, are not matched by scientific evidence.
While natural salts do contain electrolytes and minerals, they’re in minuscule amounts. Table salt, often criticized, provides necessary iodine, absent in most artisanal salts.
Overconsuming sodium, the shared main ingredient, remains a significant risk for heart and kidney health. Recommendations now focus on reducing overall salt in the diet.
Instead of trading table salt for sea salt, focus on eating less sodium across the board, especially from packaged breads and sauces.
