Thailand has dismissed claims made by Cambodia regarding recent clashes along the shared border, asserting that Phnom Penh misrepresented facts and breached a mutually agreed ceasefire.
According to Thai authorities, both nations had committed to a ceasefire starting at midnight on July 28 after high-level talks in Malaysia. However, Cambodia allegedly violated the agreement by launching attacks on Thai troops in the Phu Makhu area of Si Sa Ket province. The renewed conflict continued until the morning of July 30, leading to the detention of 20 Cambodian soldiers.
Thailand insisted the detentions adhered strictly to international humanitarian standards. Two Cambodian soldiers — one injured during the fighting and another with combat-related mental health issues — were returned to Cambodia on August 1 for humanitarian reasons, under the Geneva Conventions.
Officials emphasized that all prisoners were treated humanely, and no torture occurred. They also invited international observers to verify conditions and support transparency, reaffirming their readiness to cooperate with global human rights organizations.
