The Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, convened with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Cebu, Philippines, at the Shangri-La Mactan hotel. This trilateral meeting, held at 6 p.m. local time, focused on the ongoing situation between Thailand and Cambodia. The discussions were organized under the auspices of the Philippines, which currently holds the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as noted by Rachada Dhanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the subsequent press conference, President Marcos addressed the gathering first in his role as ASEAN chair, followed by Prime Minister Hun Manet and finally Prime Minister Anutin. Expressing gratitude to President Marcos for initiating the meeting, Anutin described the dialogue with Cambodia as constructive and forward-looking, emphasizing that the discussions were both frank and meaningful.

The meeting served as a crucial platform for Thailand and Cambodia to reaffirm their dedication to dialogue and the maintenance of peace. Prime Minister Anutin highlighted the close ties and interconnectedness between the two neighboring countries and stressed the detrimental effects of conflict, which results in loss and hardship for all involved. He advocated for the value of peace as a guiding principle in their relations.

Looking towards the future, Prime Minister Anutin called for a renewed chapter in Thai-Cambodian relations, emphasizing the need for sincerity and good faith. He underscored the importance of a shared determination to overcome challenges and foster a collaborative partnership.
