Israel has significantly broadened its military front, conducting deep and powerful airstrikes inside the Yemeni capital of Sanaa. This major operation came just days after Houthi rebels targeted Israel with a ballistic missile that was uniquely dangerous, allegedly carrying a cluster bomb warhead.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the strikes, framing them as a lesson not just for the Houthis but for the entire region about Israel’s military might and unwavering resolve. He warned that the Houthis are paying and will continue to pay a “very heavy price” for their hostile actions.
The Israeli Air Force operation was comprehensive, striking a military compound that includes the presidential palace, a key fuel depot, and two power stations. Defence Minister Israel Katz claimed the complete destruction of the palace, a significant symbolic and strategic blow if confirmed.
The immediate impact in Sanaa was severe, with the Houthi government reporting six fatalities and 86 injuries. The strikes demonstrate Israel’s capacity and willingness to engage threats far from its borders, fundamentally altering the strategic calculus for Iran-backed groups in the Middle East.
