At the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Việt Nam made a strong call for enhanced economic integration and regional resilience. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized the necessity for ASEAN members, along with China, Japan, and South Korea, to intensify their cooperation across various sectors such as trade, connectivity, and sustainable development. Highlighting the significance of implementing regional trade agreements, he urged the expansion of collaboration in critical areas including energy security, food security, digital transformation, innovation, and clean energy.
Minister Trung proposed the exploration of regional energy cooperation mechanisms as a strategy to bolster resilience against future economic and geopolitical challenges. The meeting underscored the importance of ASEAN+3 as a pivotal platform for regional cooperation. Member countries collectively agreed on speeding up the implementation of the ASEAN+3 Work Plan 2023–2027, reflecting a shared commitment to the region’s growth and stability.
During the discussions, there was a consensus on the need to strengthen financial cooperation, enhance regional food reserves, and promote renewable energy initiatives. The ministers also advocated for increased investment in sectors such as education, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges, recognizing these areas as vital for fostering sustainable development and mutual understanding among the nations.
China, Japan, and South Korea reaffirmed their support for ASEAN’s central role in regional affairs, pledging ongoing assistance to advance the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. This commitment highlights the collaborative spirit and shared objectives within the ASEAN+3 framework, emphasizing a united approach to addressing regional challenges and opportunities.
