Vietnam and Azerbaijan are seeking to enhance their strategic partnership by expanding cooperation in various sectors, following high-level discussions in Baku between Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. The talks were held during Xuan’s visit to the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on October 14.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership, initially established after Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2025. The leaders identified opportunities to boost economic, trade, and investment relations, focusing on key industries such as oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, and science and technology.
Discussions also centered on potential joint energy projects and encouraging businesses from both countries to explore further investment opportunities. To facilitate travel and business exchanges, both sides agreed to consider visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes.
The meeting emphasized the importance of enhancing high-level exchanges and improving coordination between government agencies to implement existing bilateral agreements more effectively. Additionally, the two countries pledged to strengthen cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production, alongside fostering stronger people-to-people connections.
Vietnam and Azerbaijan also committed to deepening their coordination at regional and international forums, supporting multilateralism, and upholding the United Nations Charter and international law, signaling a mutual interest in maintaining a stable and cooperative international environment.
