Vietnam and Denmark Upgrade to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on enhancing collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development. This significant development was announced during the state visit of Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam to Denmark, which took place from October 19 to 21, 2026. The visit also marked the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The new partnership builds upon the Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both countries have committed to expanding political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and economic cooperation. Key areas of focus include renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport. Additionally, they aim to foster business investment, strengthen supply chains, and improve market access through existing trade agreements.

A significant aspect of the agreement is the deepening of cooperation on climate action, emphasizing energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy projects. These efforts align with Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership also encompasses maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.

Vietnam and Denmark have reaffirmed their commitment to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They have also expressed their support for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Looking forward, both governments plan to develop action plans to implement the partnership, turning their commitments into practical cooperation. This strategic move reflects the shared vision of Vietnam and Denmark to enhance their collaboration on various fronts, contributing to regional and global stability and development.
