Vietnam and Malaysia are set to enhance their defense cooperation as both nations aim to bolster bilateral relations and contribute to regional security. This development comes after a meeting in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, where the Vietnamese official commended the ambassador for his efforts in fostering closer ties between the two countries.
During the talks, Giang underscored the advances made in defense relations, citing regular military exchanges, policy dialogues, training collaborations, and joint participation in international and multilateral forums as significant milestones. These efforts reflect a commitment to deepen collaboration and enhance mutual understanding between Vietnam and Malaysia.
The Vietnamese defense minister emphasized the importance of continuing with the current agreements and called for greater engagement through high-level meetings and established defense cooperation mechanisms. This approach is aimed at ensuring sustained progress in the ongoing bilateral defense initiatives.
In addition, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysian defense leaders and companies to participate in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to take place in Hanoi. This event is anticipated to provide a platform for further cooperation and exchange between the defense sectors of both nations.
The Malaysian ambassador expressed gratitude to Vietnam’s defense ministry and military for their support during his tenure. He conveyed optimism that the defense relations between the two countries will continue to flourish, contributing to peace and prosperity across the region.
