Vietnam and Japan have pledged to enhance their collaboration at both party and legislative levels, following discussions in Hanoi between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This commitment underscores the ongoing development of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The talks emphasized the intention to intensify political dialogue and foster parliamentary exchanges, building on the momentum generated by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc pointed out Vietnam’s impressive economic achievements and the country’s dedication to administrative reforms, suggesting that Japan could contribute its expertise in local governance and decentralization to aid Vietnam’s institutional advancements.
Further cooperation was proposed in crucial areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc also advocated for stronger ties between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and increased exchanges among young lawmakers.
Additionally, Vietnam has sought continued support for its community in Japan and has proposed simplifying visa procedures, aiming ultimately for visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens. These measures are seen as steps to bolster the bilateral relationship further.
Hagiuda Koichi affirmed Japan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Vietnam, stating that the LDP and the Japanese parliament would continue to promote exchanges and collaborative efforts in areas such as advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This cooperation is a testament to the enduring partnership between the two nations, focused on mutual growth and development.
