In a significant move to combat counterfeit goods and bolster intellectual property protection, Thailand is set to destroy over 2 million items seized in infringement cases. This year’s destruction targets 2.08 million products, marking a 36.45% increase compared to the 1.52 million items destroyed in 2025. The estimated value of the goods has risen to THB2.14 billion, a substantial jump from THB900.91 million last year.
The range of counterfeit items includes a variety of products such as clothing, watches, bags, electronic devices, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, as well as food and beverages. The crackdown has been executed through enforcement operations in both online and offline markets. This initiative underscores the Thai authorities’ commitment to clamping down on counterfeit trade and protecting intellectual property rights.
To ensure that the destruction process does not harm the environment, the goods are being disposed of at facilities equipped with environmental management systems located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This approach aims to safely eliminate the counterfeit products without posing a risk to nearby communities.
Despite these efforts, Thailand remains on the Watch List in the 2026 Special 301 Report concerning intellectual property protection and enforcement. In response, Thai authorities are collaborating with the United States on an intellectual property work plan. This plan is designed to enhance enforcement measures, curb counterfeit sales, safeguard consumers, and foster a more transparent business climate.
