Việt Nam and Singapore are set to enhance their political trust and strategic coordination, focusing on cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This initiative comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that the bilateral relationship has progressed beyond traditional economic connections, now emphasizing sectors that facilitate long-term growth and integration within ASEAN.
The partnership between the two nations was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, signifying increased political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore stands out as one of Việt Nam’s key economic partners and the second-largest foreign investor, with numerous projects in manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A notable aspect of their cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is expanding towards greener and smarter industrial models in line with sustainable development objectives.
Both countries are also advancing cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are underway to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations. Economic collaboration is anticipated to be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with a focus on deeper partnerships in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology advancement.
Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are anticipated to forge stronger connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit aims to bolster the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam, furthering the collaborative spirit between the two countries.
During his trip, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s expanding international influence and dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic independence.
