In a bid to enhance collaboration between Vietnamese localities and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ led a delegation to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to evaluate the cooperative efforts and review the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community in these regions, alongside assessing Vietnamese business activities.
Discussions with local leaders centered around broadening cooperation in several sectors, including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials emphasized the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces, underscoring the impact of cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and various development projects. Kratie province, in particular, acknowledged the advances made in diplomatic and socio-economic cooperation, highlighting joint infrastructure development efforts and collaborations in the repatriation of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ remains from the wartime era in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ lauded the role of Vietnamese enterprises active in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that these ventures have been instrumental in bolstering local economic growth and fortifying bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities highlighted the province’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, encouraging further Vietnamese business ventures in the area.
During his visit, the ambassador also engaged with representatives from the Vietnamese-origin community. Discussions focused on addressing legal and livelihood challenges while promoting adherence to local regulations. He also urged support for educational initiatives and sustainable development within these communities.
Vietnam stands as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors, with over 200 investment projects amounting to a collective registered capital of approximately $3 billion. This substantial presence underlines the significant economic ties between the two nations and the ongoing efforts to expand and deepen these connections.
