Vietnam and the World Bank have pledged to deepen their collaboration on key issues such as water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. This commitment was made during a meeting in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng and senior officials from the World Bank. Both parties emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing Vietnam’s environmental and infrastructural challenges.
The Vietnamese government acknowledged the World Bank’s long-standing support in various sectors, including infrastructure, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainable development. Projects funded by the World Bank have notably enhanced water resource management, food security, and climate adaptation efforts throughout Vietnam, underscoring the value of this cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Dũng highlighted that water security is a strategic priority for Vietnam, especially in light of the growing climate-related challenges faced by regions like the Mekong Delta. He expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and advocated for extending long-term collaboration in areas of water management and climate resilience.
The World Bank reiterated its dedication to supporting Vietnam with financial assistance, technical expertise, policy guidance, and access to international knowledge. Officials from the bank stated that focusing on water security and climate adaptation will be central to the upcoming partnership framework with Vietnam. This framework aims to tackle pressing environmental issues through a coordinated and sustained effort.
Discussions also touched upon enhancing cooperation in climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. Both sides are keen on fast-tracking projects that aid vulnerable communities and promote long-term environmental sustainability. Such initiatives are crucial for building a more resilient future in the face of escalating climate challenges.
