Vietnam, Cambodia Enhance Cooperation for Border Security Measures

Police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces have committed to enhancing their collaborative efforts to bolster security and public order along their shared border. This agreement was solidified during a conference held in Tây Ninh on Friday, where officials from both countries discussed strategies to combat cross-border crime.

The conference served as a platform for reviewing ongoing cooperation and exploring new measures to strengthen coordination in tackling various criminal activities. Authorities have been focusing on issues such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, and online fraud. The importance of direct communication and the regular exchange of information was underscored, aiming for swift handling of cross-border criminal cases.

In addition to these efforts, the provincial police forces agreed to intensify patrols and surveillance of border trails and crossings. This move is expected to curb illegal entries and exits, which are often exploited by organized transnational crime syndicates. Enhancing cooperation in areas like counter-terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime was also part of the discussions, as officials acknowledged the evolving nature of non-traditional security threats.

The conference concluded with the signing of a cooperation memorandum, which outlines a framework for ongoing collaboration in crime prevention and maintaining public order in these border regions. This agreement marks a significant step in the joint efforts of Vietnam and Cambodia to ensure safety and security along their borders.
