Vietnam and Canada have formalized an Action Plan to advance their Strategic Partnership, outlining specific areas for enhanced cooperation. This agreement was solidified during a meeting between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa. The plan seeks to translate commitments made by the countries’ leaders into tangible programs and projects.
The comprehensive Action Plan encompasses numerous sectors, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Both nations are committed to regularly reviewing and updating the plan, with an emphasis on bolstering coordination between government agencies, local authorities, and businesses for effective implementation.
The foreign ministers also agreed to enhance existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks of strategic significance. Discussions extended to regional and international concerns, with a mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.
In support of upcoming international events, Vietnam and Canada pledged to back each other’s efforts in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029. Additionally, Vietnam expressed its support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028.
