Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has proposed the establishment of an elite international search and rescue team designed for swift deployment, aiming to bolster Vietnam’s contribution to global humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. The call came during a ceremony recognizing Vietnam’s rescue mission in Venezuela, where a team was sent following a pair of devastating earthquakes.
The Prime Minister commended the 124-member team, comprising military and public security personnel, for their skilled and compassionate work. In Venezuela, the team managed to recover 57 victims, distribute 5.6 tonnes of relief supplies, provide medical care to over 130 residents, and offer additional financial assistance to the impacted communities. Their significant efforts were acknowledged with Venezuela’s Hero of Venezuela Medal, a testament to their invaluable contributions.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister urged authorities to enhance Vietnam’s rescue operations by investing in modern equipment, providing specialized training, improving coordination, and building stronger international partnerships. These measures are intended to elevate Vietnam’s capacity for effective response in future international humanitarian missions.
Additionally, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of better support and acknowledgment for those who participate in overseas humanitarian missions. This includes ensuring that personnel receive appropriate recognition and resources, highlighting the nation’s commitment to global aid and solidarity.
