Vietnam Pledges to Enhance ASEAN–Russia Strategic Partnership Ties

Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in enhancing the collaboration between ASEAN and Russia, following the recent ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit that celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s substantial contributions to the summit’s success, which focused on reinforcing ASEAN’s central role and fortifying the strategic partnership between the bloc and Russia.

Led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation advocated for dialogue, cooperation, peaceful resolution of disputes, and adherence to international law. They proposed expanding collaboration in critical areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. The summit culminated in the adoption of new frameworks designed to bolster ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a key pillar of this partnership.

In a demonstration of its commitment to fostering future regional cooperation, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This move reflects Vietnam’s dedication to nurturing emerging leaders and strengthening regional ties. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The talks between Prime Minister Hưng and President Putin concentrated on broadening cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport. Vietnam expressed that the outcomes of the summit would not only reinforce ASEAN–Russia relations but also enhance regional stability and open new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia.
