Vietnamese Leader Demands Hà Nội Speed Up Sustainable Economic Development

Vietnam’s leader Tô Lâm has urged Hà Nội to focus on accelerating economic growth while maintaining sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. In a recent meeting with the city’s officials, Tô Lâm highlighted the importance of improved governance and acknowledged the city’s achievements in areas such as institutional reforms, infrastructure enhancements, and administrative progress.

Despite these advancements, Tô Lâm pointed out several challenges that Hà Nội faces, including slower-than-anticipated economic growth, underutilization of available resources, and delays in significant urban projects. He emphasized the need for local authorities to tap into idle resources and speed up essential infrastructure projects to overcome these hurdles.

To address these issues, Tô Lâm called for heightened support for businesses, tourism, and innovation sectors. He also stressed the importance of improving public services, particularly in reducing traffic congestion, addressing pollution, expanding housing options, and investing in education and healthcare. Additionally, digital transformation was identified as a key area for investment to support the city’s development goals.

Hà Nội has set an ambitious target of achieving an 11% growth rate in the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This comes after the city recorded an 8.22% economic growth rate in the first half of the current year, which surpassed the national average. With these efforts, the city aims to unlock its full economic potential while ensuring a better quality of life for its residents.
